A OVERVIEW ON ARTIFICIALINTELLIGENCE IN PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRYAnusha Syamala , Department of pharmaceutics, Acharya nagarjuna university,Guntur, pin ;522510Abstract; Artificial intelligence is branch of computer science. It involves developing computer programs to complete tasks but it requires human intelligence. By using artificial intelligence medical records can be maintained.AI have different applications, it is used in drug discovery /manufacturing , radiology and radiotherapy, clinical trail research. There is difference between the human intelligence and artificial intelligence mainly in this areas such as memory, problem solving, learning, planning , language, reasoning and perception. Main disadvantage with AI is too expensive, no emotion, no continuous self development, no innovation by self.AI transformations is expected to increase exponentially over the next 10 or 20 years. Keywords; Artificial intelligence, human intelligence, radiology, radiotherapy.INTRODUCTIONDefinition; Artificial intelligence is a branch of computer science dealing with the simulation of intelligent behaviour in computers.Capability of a machine to imitate intelligent human behaviourIt involves developing computer programs to complete tasks but it requires human intelligence.Artificial intelligence algorithms can tackle learning, perception, problem solving, language understanding. All AI programs are not used to control robots. If AI is used to control robots ,the AI algorithms are only part of the larger robotic system , which includes ,sensors , actuators and nonAI programming.Advantages of artificial intelligenceData management i,e maintaining medical records can be done using AIIts helps to identify errors.AI can increase the time to focus on more urgent or complex tasks and to interact with patients by carrying out repetitive tasks such as data entry and lab test analysis.By using AI many apps have been created to provide medical advice based on database analysis of a patients symptoms and medical history.Using AI ,digital nurses monitor and follow up with a patient between doctor appointments. It aid in reducing unnecessary hospital visits and thus lessen the burden on medical professionals and save the health care system money.Using a sensors or mobile applications such as AI cure , a patient medication use can be monitored in real time by AI. This could be helpful for patients in whom adherence is an issue for clinical trails.Google AI is researching to implement AI for health care and bioscience.Recently, you may have heard about Google AI ,which can detect diabetes by examining retina in depth.Disadvantages of artificial intelligenceToo expensive; one of the disadvantage of AI is that construction of AI can be a huge cost. Because AI integrated machines are very complex. More over , they also cost a lot in repair and maintenance.AI machines need to be constantly updated with changing technology. No emotion; deciding some circumstances is based on emotions, which can’t be done properly by AI. It mainly work on programs and coding. No continuous self development , ; AI is work based on programming, that means it didn’t experience any self development. The machine can perform new tasks only if we update its programs. No innovation by self; AI helps us in many ways , but its not capable of innovations and creativity.HISTORYThe history of artificial intelligence began in antiquity, with myths, stories and rumours of artificial beings endowed with intelligence or consciousness by master craft man. The seeds of modern AI were planted by classical philosophers. Who attempted to describe the process of human thinking as the mechanical manipulation of symbols .This work culminated in the invention of the programmable digital computer in the 1940s, a machine based on the essence of mathematical reasoning. This device and the ideas behind it inspired a handful of scientists to begin seriously discussing the possibility of building an electronic brain. The field of AI research was founded at a workshop held on the campus of Dartmouth college during the summer. Eventually it became obvious that they had grossly underestimated the difficulty of the project. Seven years later, a visionary initiative by the Japanese government and industry to provide AI with billions of dollars, but by the late 80s the investors became disillusioned by the absence of the needed computers power and withdrew funding again.Investment and interest in AI boomed in the first decades of the 21st century. when machine learning was successfully applied to many problems in academia and industry due to the presence of powerful computer hardware Types of artificial intelligence; The following are the common type of artificial intelligence.Activity recognition, affective computing, artificial creativity, artificial immune system, artificial life, artificial stupidity, automation, blockhead , bot , chatterbot, committee machine, computer automated design computer vision, decision support system, embodied agent ansemble learning, evolutionary algorithms, friendly artificial intelligence, intelligence amplification, machine learning, natural language processing, neural network, neurofuzzy, recursive self improvement, self replicating system, sentiment analysis.COMPARISON BETWEEN ATRIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND HUMAN INTELLIGENCEArtificial intelligence Human intelligenceAI is designed to add human like qualities to machine. Human intelligence is something natural, nothing is artificial in it.Created by human intelligence Created by divine intelligenceProcess information faster Process information slowerMore accurate May be less accurateCannot adapt to changes well Can easily adapt to changesIt cannot do multitasks Can easily do multitasksAPPLICATIONSDisease identificationPersonalised treatmentMicrobiosensors and devices, mobile apps with more sophisticated health measurment and remote monitoring capabilities; these data can further be used for R&D.Drug discovery and manufacturing.Clinical trail researchMachine learning to shape , direct the clinical tails.Advanced predictive analysis in identifying candidates for clinical trails.Remote monitoring and real time data access for increased safety; biological and other signals for any sign of harm or death to participants.Finding best sample sizes for increased efficiency.Used in radiology and radiotherapy.Smart electronic health record.FUTURE TRENDS AND CONCLUSIONArtificial intelligence is doubtlessly the next big thing for pharma . Adopting AI will help companies to gain a strategic advantages and anticipating those AI related techniques will drive operational efficiencies, revenue and innovation.AI transformation is expected to increase exponentially over the next 10 or 20 years. many big pharmaceutical companies began investing in AI in order to develop better diagnostics or biomarkers, to identify drug targets and to design new drugs and products.REFERENCE
