Leadership and Collaboration SkillsNameInstitutionInstructorCourseDate Leadership and Collaboration SkillsIt is important for contemporary nurses to have strong leadership and collaboration skills which have been indicated as necessary in improving the delivery of healthcare. Leaders play important roles in guiding and directing organizations in achieving the desired goals (Ma, Shang, & Bott, 2015). Collaboration also allows the participation of other members of the organization in the decision-making process enhancing the decisions made in healthcare organizations. Education plays a key role in shaping effective leaders. This is because some of the effective leadership skills are learned through evidence-based sources (Ma, Shang, & Bott, 2015). Leadership expertise enables a leader to work in specific areas that he/she has been trained on. This will help a leader in improving his/her communication skills that are important in using a collaborative approach. Communication skills help leaders to communicate with other staff members where the leaders may be able to identify some of their employees’ needs and concerns (Ma, Shang, & Bott, 2015). This will help a leader in focusing on how the performance of the employees can be enhanced. As a leader, taking the lead to improve patient care in my practice setting will provide me with an opportunity to exercise the acquired leadership skills in a practical setting. Leaders are responsible for the performance of an organization that makes it necessary for leaders to implement effective strategies to achieve the desired organizational goals (Huber, 2017). As a mediator between the management and other employees, I will be able to address the needs of the employees as well as the organization’s. One of the effective ways to use in this position is collaborating with the employees since they are majorly responsible for performing different tasks in the organization which determine the achievement of organizational goals (Huber, 2017). One of the most effective leadership approaches is servant leadership which is attributed to the leader taking care of his/her followers in diverse ways. This puts more emphasis on the importance of addressing the needs of other members of the organization (Huber, 2017).The knowledge and skills needed to achieve my professional goals include effective planning of the available resources and the determination of the most effective strategies to use in achieving these goals (Ma, Shang, & Bott, 2015). Collaborating with other professional members is also important in getting more information related to the professional goals. It is also important to have clear professional goals as this will help in developing an accurate plan with adequate timelines (Ma, Shang, & Bott, 2015). In achieving professional goals, communication skills are critical in developing an effective team in an organizational setting. This will allow an individual to listen and communicate effectively with other team members which is important in clearly expressing ideas and thoughts. Problem-solving skills will also help a professional leader in using creativity to address different issues in the organization (Ma, Shang, & Bott, 2015). If problems are not effectively addressed effectively, they may prevent the leader in achieving his/her professional goals. ReferencesHuber, D. (2017). Leadership and Nursing Care Management.
