Results of surveyA survey was conducted in Khayelitsha where pregnant women and nurses were interviewed. Five people were interviewed, nurses will use the application in the hospitals and the pregnant women can use it at home and any other place of their choice. When the interviewees were asked if they know of the trimester they are in now. 80% of the interviewees didn’t know while 20% knew. Secondly when the interviewees were asked if they were aware of the risk their unborn babies might be in, provided that they do not have a balanced diet and exercise regularly. 50% of the interviewees said they are aware while the other 50% said they are not aware. Thirdly the interviewees were asked if they go for regular check-ups to nearest health care centres. 40% of the interviewees said that they go for regular check-ups while 60% don’t go. The interviewees were asked whether they know about depression and how it could negatively affect their unborn babies. 70% of the interviewees said that they don’t know while 30% said they know about depression. The interviewees were then asked if they would like if a depression test could be included in the program. 60% of the interviewees said yes they would, while 40% said they would not want a depression test to be included. Lastly the interviewees were asked if they have prepared for the arrival of their babies, 60% said that they have not prepared while 40% said that they have prepared. ConclusionThrough the survey that was conducted in Khayelitsha it has shown that people are not aware of things they should and not do during their pregnancy. Majority of the people do not go for regular check-ups which then cause their babies to be born with various kinds of diseases because they could not be identified at an earlier stage. Which is why you will find most people with children that are not well (mentally and physically sometimes), also the cause of health care centres not having adequate equipment/resources that determine gender of the baby and check for development of the baby (ultra-sound machines) etc. Patients should be told of trimester they are in so that they know of what to do and not do. It is important that the mother is not stressed or depressed because, depression can have a negative impact on the baby and the mother.
